According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham chiefs are considering buying Jack Wilshere out of his contract with the club.
The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer in the summer of 2018, after his contract had expired with Arsenal.
The 34-capped England international’s time at the London Stadium has been blighted by injuries, however.
Wilshere has made just 16 appearances for West Ham, racking up just one goal and one assist (Transfermarkt).
The wisdom behind bringing the central midfielder to the club is now being questioned by fans and pundits alike. Especially considering the fact that he was signed on a three-year deal worth £100,000 per week (Spotrac).
It’s sad really. Because on his day, Wilshere was one of the best.
And now Football Insider claims that the powers that be at West Ham are considering offering Wilshere a pay-off to leave the club before his contract expires in the summer of 2021.
And if they manage to agree some kind of deal with the former Arsenal man, it will be a very sensible move from the Hammers.
Wilshere’s body is clearly broken. And to think that he still has a future at West Ham would be extremely optimistic.
The 28-year-old has made just 78 Premier League appearances since the start of the 2014/15 season.
And releasing the midfielder would free up some much needed space on the Hammers wage-bill to help them recruit some top talent in the summer.
