West Ham are one of three clubs interested in Ilay Elmkies. According to a report by The Sun, West Ham will battle with Manchester City and Manchester United for Hoffenheim starlet Elmkies.
The Hammers face a tough task convincing Elmkies to ignore the lure of the two Manchester clubs in favour of a move to East London. But they will hope that the prospect of first-team football in the near-future could tempt the teenager to West Ham.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is said to be a big fan. But his team face competition from city rivals Man United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men need reinforcements, although Elmkies will be seen as one for the future.
Hoffenheim risk losing Elmkies on the cheap. With just one year remaining on his contract, he needs to be sold if they want to avoid the possibility of losing him for a mere compensation fee. As a result, Hoffenheim will reportedly accept just £2.5m for the young midfielder.
Who is Ilay Elmkies?
Elmkies is regarded as a top young talent in Germany. The Israel U19 international is yet to make his first-team debut but he has been compared to Thiago Alcantara (as per The Sun).
He currently plays for Hoffenheim’s U19 side. Operating as a central midfielder, Elmkies has impressed, scoring three and providing four assists in 30 games last season.
If Elmkies joined West Ham, he would probably head straight to the U23 team. But within the next few years, he could be competing for a first-team spot.
The 19-year-old is regarded as an exciting young talent. And beating off Premier League giants Man City and Man United would be a statement of intent by the Irons.
