West Ham and Crystal Palace are locked in a transfer tussle for a promising French youngster. According to reliable French media source L’Equipe, the two London clubs are interested in Davis Abanda.
AC Ajaccio midfielder Abanda is a wanted man this summer. His contract expires in summer 2020, meaning the Corsica-based club need to cash in on him now or risk losing him on the cheap.
This has alerted two clubs from the Premier League. But Crystal Palace have the advantage, as per this report. L’Equipe speculate that the Eagles could move first for Abanda.
But West Ham have watched Abanda in action. After closely monitoring his progress and his contract situation, perhaps the Hammers could move for Abanda this summer.
Who is Davis Abanda?
Abanda plays for Ajaccio – a French second-tier side. Ajaccio finished in 17th place last season, narrowly avoiding a relegation play-off place at the expense of local rivals GFC Ajaccio.
Despite being highly rated, Abanda is yet to make his first-team debut for Ajaccio. The 18-year-old, who turns 19 this week, played for Ajaccio’s reserves in the Championnat National 3.
He scored five goals for Ajaccio in the French fifth tier. But the next challenge will be stepping up. If he moves to England, he is likely to join an academy at West Ham or Crystal Palace.
Ajaccio midfielder Abanda is the twin brother of AC Milan left-back Leroy Abanda. He moved to the San Siro in January after leaving Monaco.
