West Ham and Leicester City both want a talented teenager from the Scottish Premiership. According to The Scottish Sun, Reece McAlear is a target for the two Premier League clubs.
Motherwell starlet McAlear is making an impression at youth level. He made his debut for Motherwell’s U20 outfit as a 15-year-old and has progressed solidly since then.
Brendan Rodgers is a long-term admirer of McAlear. Back when he was Celtic manager, Rodgers thought about taking McAlear to Parkhead. But now he is ready to reignite that interest and offer him the route to Leicester.
West Ham will provide competition for the teenager. The 17-year-old is firmly on West Ham’s radar and might be tempted by the project in East London.
McAlear has one season remaining on his contract at Motherwell. But both Leicester and West Ham could blow the Scottish top-flight team out of the water by flexing their financial muscle.
Where would Reece McAlear fit in at West Ham?
McAlear would almost certainly be a signing for the future, rather than an immediate purchase. The Scotland U17 starlet has not made his Motherwell debut yet and is still a few years away from being first-team ready.
But he could add competition for places in the Hammers academy. His initial challenge would be to break into the U23 team and then push for first-team spots.
Motherwell’s official website describes McAlear as “a tall, elegant midfielder with a terrific range of passing and outstanding technical ability.”
Standing at over 6ft tall and still growing, McAlear could be a complete central midfielder in the future. This could be one to watch out for this summer.
