Rumours linking West Ham with a move for Joe Allen have resurfaced. According to The Telegraph, West Ham and Watford are expected to compete for Stoke City’s Allen this summer.
Allen signed a new contract with Stoke last summer but their failure to win promotion could lead to his summer exit. After a disappointing season for the Potters, West Ham could offer Allen a route back to the top-flight.
The Hammers could be searching for a new central midfielder this summer. And Allen fits the bill given his experience in the Premier League.
Who is Joe Allen?
Allen has a wealth of experience in the Premier League from spells with Swansea City, Liverpool and Stoke.
The 29-year-old is known as a tenacious but technically gifted box-to-box midfielder and he has played over 400 times in his career.
This includes 119 Premier League outings with 16 goals and 11 assists. In addition, the Wales international has 49 caps for his country.
And in 44 Championship games this season, Allen has scored six times and set up four more. He has started all 44 of their league matches.
West Ham’s interest in Allen has been around for a while. In January 2018, the Irons lined up a £15m swoop for the diminutive midfielder, as per The Daily Mail.
And now it looks like Manuel Pellegrini will revisit a move for Allen as he looks to bolster this midfield options.
