The Hammers are expected to be busy between now and the end of the month whilst Spurs don’t really need to do any business.

David Moyes clearly needs to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium but Jose Mourinho surely wouldn’t turn his nose up at the chance to strengthen his options at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The young Dane joined Sampdoria from Nordsjaelland in the summer of 2020 for around €6.7 million (£6 million) according to Sempre Inter.

The 20-year-old is a left winger by trade but he can also operate in central midfield and centre-forward positions.

Damsgaard has racked up two goals and three assists in 18 Serie A games for Sampdoria thus far. That’s a fairly impressive return considering that he has played just 57 minutes per match on average (Transfermarkt).

His playing style has been compared to Napoli and Belgium star Dries Mertens (Football Critic).

The Denmark international’s quality and talent is undeniable. Whether he is ready to make the jump up in quality and intensity to the Premier League, however, is debatable.

Perhaps another year in Serie A would do Damsgaard the world of good.

West Ham or Tottenham would be getting a very good young player if either club end up signing Mikkel Damsgaard.

West Ham hold one advantage over Tottenham in Mikkel Damsgaard race

The Hammers have a great chance to make a big statement by beating Spurs to the 20-year-old’s signature.

Let’s be honest here, Damsgaard would have little chance of breaking into the Tottenham team with the likes of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Gareth Bale, Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura all battling it out in the attacking positions.

West Ham have plenty of strength ourselves in that particular department. But the young Dane would have a much greater chance of earning regular first-team action at the London Stadium than he would at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Let’s hope that is enough to tempt the Sampdoria ace into joining the Hammers rather than Spurs. He is a supremely talented young player.

In fact, Football Critic suggest that the 20-year-old has ‘uncanny ability’.

And if we sign him, he could very well go on to become a star in east London.
