Hammers boss David Moyes will undoubtedly be keen to bolster his central midfield ranks this summer.
Even if West Ham manage to turn Tomas Soucek’s loan deal into a permanent one, they will be left short in the engine room.
Mark Noble isn’t the player he once was, whilst Carlos Sanchez will almost certainly be leaving this summer.
Then there is the small matter of Declan Rice being heavily linked with an exit from the London Stadium.
And Calcio Mercato claims that the Hammers could look to address that issue by signing AZ Alkmaar ace Teun Koopmeiners. Although the east London outfit could face competition from Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton.
Stats
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a quite incredible season with the Dutch outfit. He has scored 16 goals in 42 games for AZ Alkmaar (Transfermarkt) – a quite incredible tally considering the fact that he is a defensive midfielder.
He is the captain of the Eredivisie outfit. Another feather in his cap, considering his tender years.
In 25 league outings this season, Koopmeiners has averaged 2.1 tackles, one interception and 2.1 clearances per game. He has averaged 82.1 passes per game, with a superb completion rate of 87.2% (Who Scored).
The Alkmaar ace could be available for just £12 million this summer, according to the Sun.
So West Ham or Everton could secure themselves a real bargain this summer.
It remains to be seen who wins the race for Koopmeiners’ signature, however, out of David Moyes and Carlo Ancelotti.
