Report: West Ham and Crystal Palace show interest in Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos

Sebastien Haller is closing in on his move to West Ham, according to various media outlets including BBC Sport. But West Ham still need another striker after Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll and Lucas Perez’s departures.

According to The Daily Record, West Ham’s new striker target is Alfredo Morelos. Both West Ham and Crystal Palace have shown ‘tentative interest’ in the Rangers striker.

Given his goalscoring record in Glasgow, it is no surprise to see clubs circling around Morelos. West Ham could look to partner him with Haller in a new-look forward department.

Morelos has a fiery temperament but there is no doubting his ability to score goals. He will be angling for a move to the Premier League or another top European league if his goalscoring exploits continue.

Last season, the Colombia international scored 30 goals and provided 11 assists in just 48 games. And he has already got off the mark this season, coming off the bench to score in Rangers’ Europa League qualifying round win.

The 23-year-old now has 49 goals in just 92 matches since his 2017 move from HJH Helsinki. He is young and a natural finisher but his hot-headed character will put potential suitors off.

Morelos, nicknamed El Bufalo, was shown a staggering five red cards last season. The last one was for losing his head and kicking out at Celtic captain Scott Brown in a high-stakes Old Firm derby clash. If he cannot iron this out of this game, Morelos will be deemed a liability.

But he is a maverick talent. And now that Arnautovic has left the building, West Ham have a space for Morelos. Can Manuel Pellegrini tame him if he joins?
