According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham centre-back Winston Reid is closing in on a loan switch to MLS side Nashville SC, in spite of the transfer window being closed.
The MLS window does not formerly open until February 12th, so the Hammers did not need to complete the deal before Friday’s deadline in England.
Reid, 31, has not played for West Ham since March 2018, with injuries wreaking havoc with the Kiwi’s career.
The 25-capped New Zealand international joined the Hammers in 2010, and has always given his all for the east London outfit.
In 166 Premier League games for West Ham, Reid has made 242 tackles, 348 interceptions and 1,301 clearances. He has won 61% of his 1,309 duals and 62% of his 609 aerial battles (premierleague.com).
The 31-year-old is an incredibly popular player amongst the West Ham fans, but unfortunately for him, injuries have stopped him going on to become a true club legend.
And now Football Insider claims that Reid is set to join MLS side Nashville SC, having jetted out to America to undergo a medical.
Our View
The loan move for the experienced centre-back is exactly what he needs. He will get the chance to play regular football in a slower paced league, and that will be hugely important for him as he looks to bounce back physically and mentally from such a long period on the sidelines.
Reid, who earns £70,000 per week at West Ham according to Spotrac, still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his deal with the east London outfit.
So he potentially still has a future at the London Stadium.
Much will depend on how he does during his time with Nashville. If he gets his fitness levels back and proves that he still has the quality, he might just have a role to play for the Hammers next season.
