West Ham’s hopes of signing Maxi Gomez have all but vanished. And Tottenham Hotspur could be the main reason for that. According to The Daily Star, Tottenham have opened talks with Gomez’s representatives over a deal.
But now, latest reports suggest Tottenham are plotting to gatecrash another Hammers transfer plan. According to El Desmarque, Spurs have jumped to the front of the queue for Real Madrid outcast Dani Ceballos.
The 22-year-old has been told he can leave the Bernabeu this summer. And West Ham were tipped to launch a £20m bid for the midfielder, as per The Daily Express.
However, West Ham’s hopes of signing Ceballos could be dashed by Mauricio Pochettino. After hijacking West Ham’s interest in Gomez, Spurs now want to beat West Ham to Ceballos too.
Who is Dani Ceballos?
Ceballos is a midfield playmaker who has drifted down the pecking order at Real Madrid since Zinedine Zidane’s return. But he is still highly regarded as a star for the future.
Real Madrid are willing to let the Spain international leave. If he moved to West Ham, he would offer youth and the experience of over 150 senior games.
But this also appeals to Tottenham. Pochettino has failed to spend any money in the last two transfer windows. And he is expected to be busy in the market this summer.
It would be a real kick in the teeth for the Hammers if London rivals Spurs swooped in for Gomez and Ceballos, leaving West Ham without their top striker and midfielder targets.
