Report: 'Sensational' 24-year-old was offered to West Ham on a plate

According to a report from L’Equipe (page 11, November 5th), Marseille desperately tried to flog Duje Caleta-Car to West Ham during the summer transfer window.

In other news: West Ham reportedly concerned that they could lose £60k-a-week ace to PL rivals in January

David Moyes was keen to bolster his central defensive ranks at the London Stadium in the summer.

The Hammers had to settle for Craig Dawson on loan in the end.

That was after trying to bring Caleta-Car to east London from Marseille, however.

L’Equipe reported a few days before transfer deadline day that West Ham had made numerous bids for the eight-capped Croatian international.

The Sun also claimed that the Hammers made a £25 million offer for Caleta-Car two days before the transfer window closed.

It seems as though West Ham could now make a move for the Marseille ace again next summer.

Buzz Sport claims that the Ligue 1 outfit are prepared to sell the 6ft 4in centre-back for £20 million at the end of this season.

But L’Equipe claim that Marseille did everything they could to sell Caleta-Car to the Hammers during the summer transfer window. It is suggested that Marseille’s director of football Pablo Longoria and Stellar Group agency offered the 24-year-old to West Ham on a plate.

Unfortunately for us, the Croatian chose to stay with Marseille so that he could play Champions League football. And that is a real shame.

Popular football scouting website IBWM recently labelled Caleta-Car as a ‘sensational talent’. Let’s just hope that the door is still open for West Ham to bring him to the London Stadium at some point in the future.
