West Ham United’s proposed deal to sign Silkeborg defender Frederik Alves is in doubt due to Brexit, according to a report from Tutto Mercato Web.

The Hammers have been tracking the young Dane Since September.

David Moyes will undoubtedly be keen to bolster his centre-back options in January.

West Ham have been strong at the back but with Angelo Ogbonna set to turn 33 this season and Fabian Balbuena soon to be out of contract, Moyes really should be looking to freshen up his options.

Silkeborg starlet Frederik Alves seems like the ideal option for the east London outfit. It seemed as though everything was going well regarding our attempts to bring the 21-year-old to the London Stadium.

Danish media outlet BT claimed back in September that West Ham were very close to bringing Alves to the London Stadium.

Then Ekstra Bladet suggested a couple of days ago that the young centre-back is expected to join the Hammers next month.

Deal in jeopardy?

There now seems to be somewhat of a problem, however.

Tutto Mercato Web reckon that West Ham’s deal to sign Alves is now in jeopardy because of Brexit.

Under the new rules, Premier League clubs will be banned from signing international U18 players. Clubs will be limited to three U21 signings per transfer window with all foreign players subjected to a points-based threshold.

On top of that, Tutto Mercato Web claims that Alves would need to be issued with a work permit and residence permit. Neither of which will be easy to come by because Denmark are in band 5. The Scandinavian country is in one of the lowest point scoring bands.

Only time will tell whether we manage to sign the 21-year-old or not. But one thing’s for sure, the United Kingdom leaving the European Union has not made our task any easier.
