Genk striker Mbwana Samatta is not aware of West Ham’s interest, according to Tanzanian media outlet Mwana Spoti.
West Ham and Newcastle United were both linked with a £10m swoop for Samatta recently (as per BBC Sport). However, the Tanzania international has admitted that he is in the dark.
Samatta landed in Dar es Salaam for international duty and was asked about his future at the airport. He claimed his agents have not told him about a move to England amid interest from the Hammers and Newcastle.
Samatta: The striker West Ham need?
West Ham need to strengthen up and down the pitch and striker is one such area. With Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti providing Manuel Pellegrini with just two options, Samatta could add depth.
The 26-year-old caught the eye recently when he scored against Liverpool in the Champions League. This is one of eight goals in 18 league and European matches for Samatta this season.
Last season, the Tanzanian striker scored 32 goals in just 51 games for Genk. This helped deliver the Belgian title and it caught the eye of suitors. West Ham are now one of the teams interested.
For just £10m, this seems like one of those gambles that might just work out. However, there does not appear to have been further discussions with his agent just yet.
