According to reports in Turkey, West Ham target Gary Medel is desperate for a move to England. And he could even terminate his contract to force this move.
Medel has one year left on his Besiktas contract but he could rip up his deal after a dispute over unpaid wages, according to Milliyet via Sport Witness.
And the Turkish newspaper adds that West Ham could be his next destination. He is reportedly keen to move back to the Premier League with the Hammers offering him an option.
Who is Gary Medel?
West Ham’s interest in Medel was first reported ahead of the January transfer window (by Sky Sports News). Manuel Pellegrini was particularly keen on this move for fellow Chilean Medel.
The Hammers had an injury crisis at that stage of the season and Medel was a versatile choice. The Chile international plays at right-back, centre-back or as a holding midfielder.
After missing out on a return to the Premier League in January, the ex-Cardiff City midfielder slipped down the pecking order at Besiktas.
Now, Medel wants to force through a move to England this summer. Besiktas do not want to lose the 31-year-old but he is considering terminating his contract.
This would allow the Irons to swoop in for a bargain deal. Medel would become a free agent and he could be a cheaper, albeit older, solution in midfield.
