Rumours linking West Ham with Gary Medel have now resurfaced. According to Turkish media outlet Fanatik, Manuel Pellegrini insists that West Ham press ahead with this deal.

West Ham’s interest in Medel dates back to the January transfer window. Back then, the Hammers needed strength in depth due to an injury crisis. Sky Sports News reported in late December that Medel was a target.

The veteran’s ability to play as a holding midfielder, right-back or centre-back appealed to Pellegrini, who had limited options in all three departments.

And these links with Medel have continued ever since with the player keen on a move to West Ham. The former Cardiff City midfielder would cost €7m (just over £6m).

West Ham’s hunt for a new central midfielder has been well-documented. But the Irons have struggled so far. According to The London Evening Standard, West Ham will miss out on Andre Gomes and they have some back-up options on their radar, such as Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden.

But Medel could be another potential solution. The experienced 31-year-old is available this summer. The Chile captain could also team up with fellow countryman Pellegrini.

With just one year remaining on his contract, Besiktas are eager to cash in. This could pave the way for his move to West Ham, provided the Hammers match his asking price.
