According to a report from the Sun, Manchester United are now considering making a £40 million bid for West Ham centre-back Issa Diop this month.
The 23-year-old joined Hammers from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for around £22 million, according to BBC Sport.
And he immediately impressed at the London Stadium.
Diop has been in and out of the team this season, however, often playing second fiddle to Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna.
Last night, West Ham played with three centre-backs, and the Frenchman still didn’t get in the team, with left-back Aaron Cresswell being preferred ahead of him.
Could that be a sign that the Hammers are preparing for life without Diop? Possibly.
The Sun claims that Manchester United have joined Chelsea and Tottenham in the race to sign the West Ham defender, and are considering making an offer of around £40 million for the former Toulouse man.
Now, the Hammers will surely not entertain the idea of selling Diop for £40 million, especially with three big clubs allegedly in for him.
Should the east London outfit receive an offer in excess of say £50 million, however, they might just be tempted to sell.
The way that the West Ham owners operate, a £28 million profit on a player they signed just 18 months ago might just be too good to refuse.
And playing Cresswell at centre-back last night might just have been a hint that Moyes thinks he can cope without the Frenchman.
