A report has made a new claim about the future of West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini.
Lanzini’s West Ham career appeared to be at a crossroads in the summer.
The Argentine’s future was cast into doubt.
First there were separate reports linking Lanzini with a move away from West Ham.
Lanzini linked with move away
There was talk of a move to Turkey with Fenerbache (The Mirror) and then a return to his first club River Plate (TYC Sports in Argentina).
Then there was speculation a renewal option in Lanzini’s contract had a set wage the midfielder was not happy with.
As a result Lanzini was said to be ‘taking steps to see if anything can be done to stop the automatic renewal’.
There appears to have been some truth in that report if a new claim from fellow Hammers website Claret and Hugh is anything to go by.
New deal sorted by September?
C&H regularly claim to have inside information from a ‘top level source’ at West Ham, believed to be co-owner David Sullivan.
And now C&H claims Lanzini’s contract situation could be resolved by September.
It comes after Lanzini was one of the few West Ham players to perform in the 1-1 draw at Brighton.
The ‘little jewel’ looks to be slowly getting back to his best following his serious knee injury.
And according to C&H West Ham want to get him tied down to a new long-term deal and avoid the contract situation ‘ending up in the courts’.
Hammers keen to avoid court threat
“West Ham hopes that they can agree on a new contract for Manuel Lanzini within the next fortnight,” the report claims.
“There has been a stalemate for some time with the 26-year-old who has less than twelve months left on his standard contract. The club holds a two-year option on Lanzini but wants to tie up a new long term deal to avoid any danger of that option being tested in the courts.
“The player is currently believed to be earning around £35,000 a week but will want to see his personal terms at least doubled.”
