Galatasaray manager Fatih Terim is set to make a decision on whether to offer a contract to free agent Gary Cahill, according to Fotospor.

Cahill has been linked with West Ham ahead of the summer window (The Mirror). And Burnley have recently been tracking him (The Daily Mail).

But these two Premier League sides could face Turkish competition. Mustafa Cengiz, Galatsaray’s president, has included Cahill on his list of summer targets.

He is waiting for Terim to give the green light before pursuing this deal. If Terim wants Cahill, Galatasaray will be hoping to beat Burnley and West Ham in the race for the veteran defender.

West Ham will potentially look for a fourth-choice centre-back this summer. Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna have shared the central defensive duties this season.

But with Winston Reid missing the entire season and Reece Oxford’s future hanging in the balance, a fourth centre-half could be targeted.

Cahill fits the bill in this regard. The 34-year-old is vastly experienced with nearly 350 Premier League appearances, 61 England caps and seven major trophies to his name.

He will also be a free transfer. With his Chelsea contract expiring and Maurizio Sarri willing to let him leave, Cahill has said his goodbyes. He brings down the curtain on a highly-decorated eight-season stay at Stamford Bridge.

But West Ham fans might want a younger option. And this deal will be contingent on Cahill’s wage demands. Galatasaray and Burnley are two other potential stumbling blocks for the Irons.
