West Ham are one of three Premier League teams considering a summer offer for Arsenal’s Danny Welbeck, according to The Mirror.
Arsenal could hand Welbeck a new deal. But West Ham, Everton and Newcastle United are ready to step in if he is released.
Welbeck is out of contract this summer and his long-term injury is a major concern. The England international has been missing since November with a serious ankle injury.
Many believed that Welbeck had played his last Arsenal game after he suffered his injury. But the Gunners could now extend his deal and Unai Emery is weighing up his options.
West Ham are said to be closely monitoring his contract situation and could launch a bid for him in the summer.
What could Danny Welbeck offer?
Welbeck is a versatile forward, able to operate out wide or as a centre-forward. The 28-year-old had netted five times in 14 games this season before his serious injury.
That took his total tally 32 goals in an Arsenal shirt following his 2015 move from Manchester United.
Welbeck’s skills are well-known. He has pace and a decent track record of scoring goals. But his injury woes will be a major concern.
He could make a similar move to Jack Wilshere; trading North for East London after Arsenal lose patience with the player’s injury problems.
Given West Ham’s reportedly low summer budget, Welbeck could be the bargain signing Manuel Pellegrini pursues.
