Report: Everton join West Ham in race to sign Maxi Gomez

The Maxi Gomez saga continues to rumble on, as West Ham try to convince the Uruguayan to join them instead of Valencia.

Another spanner has allegedly just been thrown into the works, however.

Spanish journalist Julio Insa claims that Everton have joined the Hammers in the race for the Celta Vigo hitman.

He took to Twitter, and suggested that the Toffees have bid £36 million for the West Ham target:

Even before Everton’s reported interest, the Hammers had their work cut-out in the race for Gomez.

The 22-year-old allegedly prefers a switch to Valencia, according to Sky Sports, with the opportunity to play Champions League football proving hard to resist for the striker.

West Ham are in desperate need of another established striker. Marko Arnautovic is heading towards the exit door at the London Stadium.

And Gomez would be the ideal addition for the east London outfit.

The Uruguay international possesses pace in abundance, and that is exactly what West Ham need – someone who can stretch the opposition’s defence.

Whether they can beat both Valencia and now Everton to his signature, however, remains to be seen.
