According to a report from the Guardian (Live Transfer Feed, 16:52), West ham have ended their interest in Barcelona right-back Moussa Wague because of concerns over work permit issues.

And reliable Hammers insider ExWHUemployee has backed up those claims on Twitter.

West Ham are very weak in the right-back department.

Pablo Zabaleta is 35 and is due to leave the club in the summer.

Meanwhile, Ryan Fredericks has been poor all season, and he is currently out injured.

The Argentine and the Englishman have recored just two assists and no goals between them in 30 combined appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

And considering how the modern full-back is expected to contribute in the final third, that really isn’t good enough.

The Guardian (Live Transfer Feed, 13:35) claimed earlier today that West Ham were eying a move for Barcelona’s 21-year-old right-back Moussa Wague in a bid to address that particular weakness.

The British media outlet now suggest (Live Transfer Feed, 16:52) that the Hammers have walked away from talks, however, regarding concerns over potential work permit issues.

Claims that have been backed up on Twitter by ExWHUemployee:

So it seems as though West Ham’s search for a right-back is destined to continue.

Wague has only made three appearances for Barca this season, however. And it would have been a tall order for him to adapt to the frenetic pace of the Premier League before the end of the season.

So perhaps it’s no bad thing that the Hammers have missed out on Wague for now at least.
