West Ham United are still interested in AC Milan midfield powerhouse Franck Kessie.
That’s according to The Mirror as the Hammers’s hopes of landing Ross Barkley look bleak.
West Ham are desperately in need of reinforcements this month.
Moyes needs a new right-back, at least one midfielder and a forward.
But recruiting an energetic, powerful and athletic central midfielder is a must.
West Ham’s midfield problem
A lack of foresight and spending over the last two windows has left West Ham weak and slow in the centre of the pitch.
West Ham missed out to Tottenham for Gedson Fernandes. The club has also been linked with Sander Berge, Joe Allen and Barkley.
But another name that continues to be linked with the East Londoners is Milan star Kessie.
According to The Mirror, West Ham still want Kessie.
And the 23-year-old is just what Moyes is missing in the middle of the pitch.
Hammers linked with Milan star Kessie again
Kessie is a stocky, powerful box-to-box player who has proved he knows where the goal is in the past.
Predominantly a defensive midfielder, the Ivory Coast international already has 25 goals in his career so far.
West Ham have lacked a midfield presence like Kessie since Cheikhou Kouyate’s departure.
The team is overly reliant on young Declan Rice.
Ivorian powerhouse just what West Ham need
And Mark Noble is brutally exposed in a two-man central midfield.
Kessie would alleviate the burden on Rice and give West Ham much-needed legs in midfield.
The Hammers have been looking for loan deals with an option this window.
Whether Milan will be willing to do business on those terms remains to be seen.
