According to a report from the Daily Star, Lille striker Victor Osimhen could be West Ham’s ‘best bet’ on deadline day, as David Moyes continues his search to add a new forward before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.
The Hammers are desperately short in attack. And Moyes needs to add more competition for the misfiring Sebastien Haller.
Their Premier League survival hopes currently look very bleak with trips to Manchester City and Liverpool to come after tomorrow’s home clash with Brighton.
But the signing of a talented forward could provide them with the boost that they need.
And the Daily Star claims that Lille’s Victor Osimhen could represent their best chance of doing just that, with Olivier Giroud and Wissam Ben Yedder unlikely to want to join a club in relegation trouble.
Would the Lille ace be a good addition for West Ham?
The 21-year-old has been in fine form in France this season. He has racked up 14 goals and five assists in 29 appearances in all competitions for Lille (Transfermarkt).
In 20 Ligue 1 outings this season, the Nigeria international has averaged 3.2 shots per game. And he is obviously very strong in the air, with an average of 4.4 aerial duals won per game (Who Scored).
Osimhen is well built and stands at 6ft 1in tall (Wikipedia), so he has a great physique for the robust nature of the Premier League.
He is also incredibly quick, with totalfootballanalysis.com suggesting that he has ‘quick bursts of acceleration’.
The Nigerian would be a very exciting addition for West Ham.
There is a problem, however. Lille value the striker at around €70 million (£60 million) according to RMC Sport.
So this one is quite clearly a non-starter.
So much for Osimhen being the Hammers’ so-called ‘best bet. If the Nigerian’s asking price is indeed £60 million, Moyes will just have to look elsewhere.
