According to The Mirror (19 February, page 47), West Ham manager David Moyes was left seething after being forced to check out potential transfer targets on YouTube.
Many Hammers fans were incensed earlier on this season when reliable insider ExWHUemployee claimed that David Sullivan and David Gold employ just one scout:
Everything that West Ham do seems to be so amateurish. Can you imagine a top club asking their manager to look at potential targets on YouTube?
It really is the kind of thing that fans do. And certainly shouldn’t be something that a football manager does.
The Hammers ended up signing Darren Randolph, Tomas Soucek (on loan with an option to buy) and Jarrod Bowen.
West Ham are bang in trouble. They are currently sitting inside the relegation zone, one point adrift of safety.
They have some incredibly difficult games coming up too.
Things need to change
If the Hammers do avoid the drop this season, however, the owners absolutely must change the way in which the club is run from top to bottom.
And employing more senior scouts would be a great place to start.
It just seems like every way in which West Ham operate is quite simply not professional. Really, it’s little wonder that they are in relegation trouble this season.
The club needs breaking down and rebuilding again from scratch. Whether the current owners will be around to oversee that change, however, remains to be seen.
