According to a report from Passione Inter, West Ham are keen to sign Inter-owned hitman Gabriel Barbosa in January.
Crystal Palace are allegedly set to challenge the Hammers for the Brazilian’s signature.
And it now seems like there might be another obstacle for West Ham in the chase for Gabigol.
The Chronicle are reporting that Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United want to sign the 23-year-old forward in January.
So the Hammers will face real competition, if they are to sign the £26 million-rated striker.
Barbosa has been on loan in Brazil with Flamengo over the past year and he has been on fire, scoring 31 goals in 38 games.
He was the hero for his club in the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday, scoring both goals as they won South America’s version of the Champions League for only the second time.
The Inter-owned hitman has the potential to explode into one of Europe’s best strikers. His playing style is similar to that of Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus.
And after a fine season in Brazil, he will be full of confidence when he heads back to Europe.
West Ham are in desperate need of someone like Gabigol, but as things stand, they will have anything but a clear run to sign him.
