According to a report from Voetbal Nieuws Genk are finally prepared to sell alleged West Ham target Joakim Maehle in the summer.
The Daily Star claimed in January that the Hammers were keen on signing the 22-year-old Danish right-back.
Whilst reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee claimed that the east London outfit actually made a bid for Maehle:
A move to West Ham obviously failed to materialise for Maehle, however.
The Dane has been in fine form for Genk this season, racking up four assists and one goal in 33 outings in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
He really impressed in the Champions League this term as well. In six games, the 22-year-old averaged 3.3 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 1.7 clearances and 0.7 blocks. He also recored an impressive pass completion rate of 76.1% in those games (Who Scored).
The 22-year-old clearly has a lot of talent, and would arguably be a big upgrade on the disappointing Ryan Fredericks.
In spite of his tender years, he is already fairly experienced, having made 141 senior club appearances thus far.
Voetbal Primeur claims that Genk value Maehle at around £8.3 million. And in the current market, that would surely represent decent value for money for West Ham.
