Bayer Leverkusen face a major battle to keep Charles Aranguiz. According to German media outlet Bild, Aranguiz wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen with West Ham among the clubs who are interested.
The Bundesliga side want to keep Aranguiz. But they might be forced into a sale as the Chile international is pushing for a summer move. Manuel Pellegrini wants his fellow countryman at West Ham.
With uncertainty surrounding his future, West Ham could test the water by making a move for Aranguiz. He only has one year left on his contract which could tempt Bayer Leverkusen to cash in now.
The 30-year-old has spent the last four years in Germany after making the move from South America. During that time, he has racked up over 100 appearances with nine goals and 17 assists.
But now he could be ready for a new challenge. West Ham could offer Aranguiz the chance to test himself in the Premier League but whether he wants this move remains to be seen.
Josh Cullen or Charles Aranguiz?
West Ham ideally need one more central midfielder in their ranks. This could be Aranguiz, it could be another new signing (such as Isaac Hayden) or it could be a current player.
Of the current crop, Cullen is the most likely to get a spot in West Ham’s squad. Alternatively, Conor Coventry or Reece Oxford could push for a place.
But Cullen is currently on the China tour and will be hoping to catch Pellegrini’s eye. If the 23-year-old impresses, West Ham can save their pennies by pulling out of an Aranguiz move.
