West Ham are one of the clubs interested in signing Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Amer Gojak, according to reports in Spain. Mundo Deportivo claims that West Ham and Southampton were interested in Gojak in the summer but now face widespread competition.
Barcelona and Manchester City are two other clubs now keen on Gojak. Pep Guardiola had the chance to scout Gojak firsthand on Tuesday night when Dinamo Zagreb lost 2-0 at The Etihad Stadium. He was introduced as a 62nd-minute substitution.
Meanwhile, Barca are keen to sign Gojak and his Zagreb team-mate Dani Olmo. German pair Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke are two others keen on Gojak but the Croatian side are not prepared to sell. Gojak’s contract lasts until summer 2022 so Dinamo Zagreb can play hardball.
Who is Amer Gojak?
Dinamo Zagreb signed Gojak from Olimpic in 2015 and he has now established himself as a first-team star. The 22-year-old has scored three and provided three assists this season as his reputation continues to grow.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international now has 13 goals and 17 assists to his name in 129 appearances. This blend of experience and youth is attracting Man City, Barcelona, West Ham and other clubs across Europe.
Gojak operates centrally, either as an advanced central midfielder or as a number 10. In this regard, he is probably quite similar to Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini. Do West Ham really need another player of this style?
