According to Claret and Hugh, there is no more than a five per cent chance that West Ham will sign Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi this month.
The Sun claimed earlier that the Hammers are leading the race to sign the 31-year-old World Cup winner.
Whilst Italian media outlet Gazzetta dello Sport also suggested that the east London outfit are in the running to sign the midfield powerhouse.
It appears that those claims could be a little wide of the mark, however.
Claret and Hugh states that a source from inside West Ham has told them that there is only a five per cent chance that West Ham will sign Nzonzi this month. It is also suggested that supposed interest in the Frenchman is almost certainly not the case.
Meanwhile, the Hammers inside source claims that David Moyes is targeting younger players this month – something that would certainly rule out a move for the former Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers man.
Nzonzi has not impressed at all since joining Roma, and has spent this season on loan with Galatasaray. So it is clear that the 31-year-old is on the decline.
And avoiding a move for him this month might just be the right call from West Ham.
As long as they go out and sign someone younger and more energetic than the powerful central midfielder, of course.
