Recent transfer links with numerous goalkeepers will undoubtedly be a blow for West Ham United ace Alphonse Areola.
If they are true of course!
Areola moved to the London Stadium on a season-long loan in the summer.
The Hammers have the option to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent deal from PSG for just €13 million (£11 million) according to a report from French publication Jeunes Footeux.
The French World Cup winner has played just one Premier League game for the Hammers. The PSG owned goalkeeper has played 16 times for West Ham in total. Those appearances have come in the Carabao Cup, the FA Cup and the Europa League as well as the league.
The Frenchman has conceded just 12 goals during those outings and has kept eight clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).
David Moyes has persisted with Lukasz Fabianski as his number one goalkeeper for the Premier League games this season though. And with the Pole recently signing a new one-year deal, it wasn’t clear as to whether the Hammers would take up the option to keep Areola at the London Stadium.
We believe that West Ham absolutely must sign the Frenchman permanently this summer.
Areola has proven that he is a truly top-class goalkeeper with one save in particular for the Hammers. With the scores tied at 0-0 on the night during our Europa League second-leg clash with Sevilla last month, Youssef En-Nesyri fired a shot from just 12 yards out that was destined for the top left-hand corner.
Areola produced unbelievable reflexes though and reached out with his right hand to parry the ball away whilst he was moving in the opposite direction.
He has done more than enough to earn a permanent deal with the Hammers. There could be trouble on the horizon for Areola though…
Transfer links with goalkeeping trio a real kick in the teeth for West Ham ace
The Hammers have been linked with summer moves for three goalkeepers.
According to The Sun, Moyes is targeting moves to sign Manchester United stopper Dean Henderson and West Brom ace Sam Johnstone.
Meanwhile, The Daily Mail claims that Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope is on West Ham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
Whilst all three players are very good goalkeepers, we strongly believe that Alphonse Areola is streets ahead of them. There should be no reason why the Hammers board won’t pay the £11 million needed to secure the French World Cup winner’s signature in the summer.
Let’s just hope that Moyes and/or the club’s owners come to their senses.
Nevertheless, the transfer links with the three names mentioned above will be a big blow on a personal level for West Ham stopper Areola.
