Report claimed West Ham want Morelos this window

West Ham were told they would have to pay around £20million for Morelos, according to the Daily Record.

But a recent report from Football Insider claimed West Ham could now get the Rangers’s 77-goal maverick for a cut-price £12million – due to the financial impact of the global health crisis – after ‘reigniting interest’.

As West Ham look to try and raise transfer funds through player sales, speculation emerged that Rangers and Morelos had agreed a deal with French side Lille (Sky Sports).

Morelos offered West Ham hope, though, when he spoke out dismissing those claims.

The livewire forward, 24, told a Colombian TV channel he is keeping his options open as he seeks a move to a more competitive league, as reported by The Sun.

Gerrard sends warning to West Ham and co over striker target’s future

But now Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has weighed into the speculation over Morelos’s future.

And on the eve of the new Scottish season, an irritated Gerrard sent a warning to the likes of West Ham that he will have the final say on any transfer (Sky Sports).

“I think the big news is always Alfredo, I think it always has been for years,” Gerrard told Sky Sports.

“I remember looking in from afar and it was about Alfredo quite a lot of the time there as well. There is nothing to report on him in terms of his situation, he’s focused, he’s training well and he’s available (for Rangers’s opener against Aberdeen).

“In terms of whether he will start or not, you will find out tomorrow 75 minutes before the game.

“It (Morelos’s future) is in my hands and it is in my control. But in terms of – for any of our players – at the end of going out the door, if a valuation is met and we decide collectively that it is the right thing for the football club, we will always be prepared (to sell) in any area.”

Gerrard comments suggest Rangers are open to Morelos sale

Mixed messages from Gerrard.

The former Liverpool star is making clear he is in control of the situation.

But he is simultaneously conceding he will sell Morelos if West Ham, Lille or any other interested parties meet his valuation.

Whether West Ham can afford to do that before selling players of their own remains to be seen.

Morelos has a reputation as a bit of a hothead. And some have questioned his ability to step up to a more competitive league.

But his goal record speaks for itself.

He has hit a superb 77 goals in 137 games for Rangers. And that includes 18 in the Europa League from just 29 appearances in the last two seasons.
