West Ham announced Marko Arnautovic’s departure with a dismissive 43-word statement on the club’s official website. Arnautovic joins Shanghai SIPG for an undisclosed fee as he finally earned his move to China.
Arnautovic has traded the Premier League for the riches of the Chinese Super League. And West Ham have not been impressed by how he has gone about securing his exit.
The 30-year-old kicked up a fuss in January and tried to force an exit. But West Ham kept Arnautovic at the club and he signed a new incentive-based contract in East London.
Marko Arnautovic saga starts again
But he started angling for a move again this summer. West Ham have completed a quick sale and the club’s official statement just outlines the facts in a blunt and to-the-point manner.
West Ham did not thank Arnautovic for his service (22 goals across two seasons), nor did they wish him luck in China. Instead, he was dismissed in just 43 words.
Many Hammers fans took to Twitter after this official announcement to share how they felt about this. Here are some of the best tweets praising the club for its handling of the Arnautovic exit.
