Chelsea could be interested in signing alleged West Ham United target Danny Ings from Southampton this summer according to a report from the Daily Mail.

ExWHUemployee claimed last month that the Hammers are potentially lining up a summer bid for the 28-year-old Saints hitman.

West Ham could have a big problem, however.

The Daily Mail reckons that Ings is a potential summer option for Chelsea with Thomas Tuchel desperate to add a natural goalscorer to his ranks at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, David Moyes needs to add at least one established striker to his ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

The Southampton ace would be a useful option for the Hammers.

Blow for West Ham with Chelsea chasing Danny Ings?

Ings joined the south coast club from Liverpool for £20 million in the summer of 2019 (BBC) having spent the previous season on loan at St Mary’s.

The hard-working striker has really impressed for the Saints, scoring 42 goals in 92 games so far (Transfermarkt).

The 28-year-old is currently out injured, however, and that’s nothing new. Ings has experienced terrible problems with injuries over the past five years or so.

That will be a major red flag for both West Ham and Chelsea.

If Ralph Hassenhuttl is prepared to sell the striker this summer, however, the Hammers or the Blues could secure themselves a bargain, with Ings’ contract due to expire with the south coast club in the summer of 2022.

The Telegraph recently reported that the 28-year-old wants to leave Southampton to join a club with Champions League football on offer.

Chelsea’s alleged interest in Ings is an unwelcome inconvenience for West Ham.

If the Blues finish inside the top four and we don’t, signing Danny Ings this summer might just become mission impossible for the Hammers.
