West Ham’s new signing Pablo Fornals has confirmed that Mario Husillos and Manuel Pellegrini played a major role in his decision to join. In an interview with the club’s official website, Fornals shared his reasons for joining West Ham.

The 23-year-old became the Hammers’ second most expensive signing in history when he penned a five-year deal last week. And West Ham fans have Husillos and Pellegrini to thank for that.

Both the Director of Football (Husillos) and the manager (Pellegrini) have an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish league. Having scouted Fornals extensively, they have landed their man.

Fornals, who was at Malaga at the same time as Husillos and Pellegrini, told whufc.com: “I have worked more with Mario, I know him from when I was in Malaga.

“With Manuel I saw him and admired him on TV. Obviously, of course Manuel was a big influence because in the end he is one of the best coaches in the world and who doesn’t like to work with people like that?”

Slowly but surely, Husillos and Pellegrini are revolutionising this West Ham team. Backed by David Sullivan and David Gold, these two are now West Ham’s transfer gurus.

This has seen a change in approach. The club no longer look to sign older and cheaper players. Fornals is yet another example of a statement signing by West Ham in the quest for European football.
