West Ham defender Reece Oxford is reportedly close to sealing a permanent exit from the club. According to Sky Sports News, Oxford is on the verge of signing for FC Augsburg.
Oxford has been on loan at FC Augsburg since January, joining the Bundesliga club after being frozen out by Manuel Pellegrini.
The 20-year-old did not feature in a matchday squad under Pellegrini’s stewardship and was forced to play U23 matches.
Having tasted some first-team action with loan spells at Reading and Borussia Monchengladbach, Oxford sought another loan exit in January.
The towering 6ft 3in centre-back was a regular for Augsburg until receiving a red card in February. He has played seven games in total for the German club now.
But Augsburg are still keen to sign Oxford permanently. And West Ham could receive up to £8m for the England under-20 international.
Oxford’s decline has been a shame after he burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old with a man of the match award against Arsenal on debut.
But he has only played 17 games for the Hammers with his attitude often questioned. Here are some opinions from West Ham fans on a permanent Oxford exit.
