With the current Premier League campaign in turmoil because of the recent coronavirus outbreak, attention is already turning to potential summer transfers. West Ham have been linked with plenty of exciting names already. And so have Manchester United.

One of them is West Brom’s Matheus Pereira.

Football Insider claims that the Hammers may try to hijack the Baggies’ proposed move for the Sporting Lisbon owned ace.

Meanwhile, The Mirror reported last year that Manchester United want to sign the 23-year-old Brazilian.

Pereira has been in absolutely sensational form this season.

In 33 Championship outings for West Brom, he has racked up 16 assists and six goals (Transfermarkt).

In those 33 league outings, Pereira has averaged 39.5 passes per game, with an incredibly impressive completion rate of 80.6%. He has also averaged 2.5 key passes per game (Who Scored).

According to A Bola, the Baggies have an exclusive option to buy the Brazilian for £9 million if and when he makes 30 league starts for the club. He has currently made 29 starts.

So if either West Ham or Manchester United are to have any chance of signing Pereira in the summer, they will have to spend big.

The Hammers do have the financial firepower to make it happen, however, and if they could beat the Red Devils to the 23-year-old’s signature it would show real ambition.

The South American is clearly an incredible talent. And at just 23, he has plenty of years left ahead of him to develop into a superstar.

Pereira is exactly the kind of player West Ham should be targeting. He has pace in abundance, is full of tricks, and has a really impressive end product.

The Brazilian can play on either wing or in the number 10 position.

West Brom will clearly be desperate to sign Pereira and then keep him. But if West Ham could push the boat out and offer the Baggies an amount of money they can’t refuse, it would be a very big statement from the east London outfit.

Especially if they can beat Manchester United to his signature in the process.
