West Ham want to sign Werder Bremen ace Milot Rashica according to a report from German outlet Der Spiegel. The problem for the Hammers, however, is that Liverpool allegedly want the Kosovo international as well.

The Reds are keen to snap up the Bremen attacker, according to a report from Weser Kurier.

And the 23-year-old’s recent comments do not bode well for the east London outfit.

Rashica spoke to German media outlet Deich Stube, and hinted that Liverpool would be the ideal destination for him in the future:

“I am still at the beginning of my career, but one thing is certain: at some point I want to regularly measure myself against the best players in the world and play the Champions League year after year. I work very hard for it and know that I can do it.”

Reds in the driving seat

West Ham boss David Moyes will surely be keen to bolster his attacking ranks this summer. Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko have both been linked with exits from the London Stadium.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will want to do the same, with more competition required for Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

But Rashica’s recent comments surely rule out a move to the Hammers. And instead put the Reds in the driving seat.

And that will be a real shame for West Ham.

The Bremen ace has been on fire this season

The 23-year-old has racked up 10 goals and five assists in 24 games for the Bundesliga outfit (Transfermarkt).

In 20 Bundesliga outings for Bremen, Rashica has averaged 1.5 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per game. He has also been fouled 1.9 times per game during those appearances (Who Scored).

The Kosovo ace is clearly an incredibly talented player. Buli News claims that the 23-year-old has a €38 million (£33 million) release clause inserted into his current contract with the German club.

Liverpool will have no problem paying that fee. West Ham might have struggled, however.

So perhaps it was always a no-starter as far as the Hammers’ interest in Rashica was concerned.
