West Ham have real problems in the right-back department.
Ryan Fredericks is currently out injured, and Pablo Zabaleta is filling in for the 26-year-old.
The 35-year-old is clearly not the player he once was, however, and he is leaving the London Stadium in the summer anyway.
ExWHUemployee claimed on Twitter yesterday that Fredericks could be back from his hamstring injury earlier than was first feared:
The West Ham insider went on to suggest that the above news could prevent the club from dipping into the market for a right-back this month:
The problem remains the same for the Hammers, however.
The former Fulham man has hardly impressed this season, and even if he does return from injury soon, West Ham still need to sign someone who can push him to the limit for his starting place.
Max Aarons would be just the man for the job
According to talkSPORT, the Hammers are keen to sign the Norwich City right-back. The Daily Mail claims that the Canaries will demand £30 million for the 20-year-old.
And it is a price that West Ham quite simply should pay.
Aarons is absolutely electric, and he is clearly a star of the future. So £30 million could end up looking like good value. The Norwich ace might well be worth double that amount in two or three years.
The 20-year-old possesses blistering pace, and offers just as much in the final third as he does defensively.
He is also a tenacious tackler, and has impressive positional sense for someone so young.
Aarons would provide incredibly stiff competition for Fredericks, and he would undoubtedly help bring out the best in the former Fulham man.
The problem for West Ham is that the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton want to Norwich right-back too, according to talkSPORT.
Even so, the Hammers must do everything within their power to bring the talented starlet to the London Stadium this month.
And should Aarons cost them £30 million, then so be it. He would be worth every penny.
