Opinion: West Ham should hijack Everton’s reported bid for Arkadiusz Milik

Everton are allegedly lining up a £10 million move for Napoli hitman Arkadiusz Milik (The Sun). And West Ham should surely consider challenging the Toffees for the Poland international’s signature.

Carlo Ancelotti is allegedly keen to add more firepower to his ranks at Goodison Park as he looks to improve upon current backup striker Cenk Tosun.

Hammers manager David Moyes was linked with a move for the 55-capped Poland international in July (TuttoMercatoWeb).

He ended up staying in Napoli, however.

The Sun are now claiming that Everton are lining up a cut-price £10 million swoop for the 26-year-old, and West Ham cannot just stand around and watch on.

The Hammers desperately need to sign a new striker in January.

Moyes has just Michail Antonio and Sebastien Haller to call upon as recognised centre-forward options.

Milik for £10 million would be a real coup for the east London outfit, that goes without saying.

The Sun claims that Napoli paid £32 million to sign Milik in 2016. So the Serie A club could let him go for a £22 million loss.

That may not be a great sign. But perhaps the Pole just needs a move away from Naples in order to reignite his career.

Stats

The 26-year-old Napoli hitman has scored 114 goals in 271 career club appearances (Transfermarkt).

That kind of goalscoring record is clear evidence of Milik’s quality. And he would provide truly great competition and cover for Antonio and Haller. For just £10 million, we can’t go wrong.

And West Ham must do everything they can to beat Everton to the Napoli ace’s signature in January.
