Opinion: Report claiming that West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell could be sold is absolute rubbish

The Sun claimed over the weekend that West Ham ace Aaron Cresswell has bought a house on Merseyside in ‘preparation for his future’ and could be sold.

The report also claims that the 32-year-old’s future at the London Stadium is uncertain and that he could try and find a local club near his native Merseyside as soon as this summer!

Cresswell will be out of contract with the Hammers in the summer of 2023.

The Sun suggests that the West Ham left-back is planning for his future away from the London Stadium as a result of not yet being handed a new deal by the East London outfit.

Cresswell joined the Hammers from Ipswich Town for around £4 million way back in the summer of 2014 (Mirror). He has since established himself as one of our most reliable players. He is also currently our second longest serving player behind Mark Noble.

When Noble retires in the summer, Cresswell will be the longest serving player at West Ham.

The Sun seem to think that he might not be around in East London for much longer though…

Aaron Cresswell could be sold, report claims

The Sun reckon that Cresswell is planning for the future and has bought a house on Merseyside in preparation for leaving West Ham at some point.

We think this is utter tosh though.

Even if Aaron has purchased a house in Liverpool, so what? That’s where he’s from. It’s no surprise whatsoever to us that he might want to do that.

Secondly, the claims that he could look for a club local to his native Merseyside in the summer are surely so far wide of the mark.

Cresswell is a vital player to this West Ham United team and he is one of David Moyes’s most trusted on-field lieutenants.

We strongly believe that he will be handed an extension on his current deal. With Noble set to hang up his boots in the summer, getting rid of our second most experienced player at the time would be absolute madness.

Cresswell still has so much to offer West Ham at the very highest level. He is a key player for us both defensively and inside the final third.

The 32-year-old may well end up back in Liverpool one day, but we don’t think that will be happening for at least another three years or so.

The Sun’s report was well wide of the mark in my opinion.
