West Ham would be mad not to consider a move to sign VVV-Venlo striker Georgios Giakoumakis this summer.

Hammers boss David Moyes will surely be prioritising the addition of a new centre-forward this summer.

In fairness, West Ham actually need to sign two established strikers. Knowing our owners, however, it may just be a case of beggars can’t be choosers.

The East London outfit have been linked with moves to sign at least 30 strikers since the January transfer window.

David Moyes decided to keep his powder dry for the summer, however.

And it won’t be long until the rumours start flying about again.

One player West Ham should definitely be considering however is red-hot VVV-Venlo hitman Georgios Giakoumakis.

The 26-year-old has been absolutely on fire in Holland this season. He has 26 goals in 26 appearances for VVV-Venlo to his name (Transfermarkt).

Georgios Giakoumakis would be a very smart summer signing for West Ham

The Greece international tops the Eredivisie goalscoring charts and has a huge nine-goal lead over second-placed Steven Berghuis.

According to Netherland News Live, Giakoumakis is valued at around €5 million (£4 million).

And that is why he would be such a smart addition for West Ham.

Spending just £4 million on Giakoumakis would enable David Moyes to go out and bring another centre-forward to the London Stadium as well.

One potential red flag will be that the Eredivisie is hugely inferior to the Premier League. The Dutch league lacks the quality, intensity and speed that the English top flight has in abundance.

All new signings have some degree of risk involved, however. He who dares wins eh?

The reported £4 million fee required for the 26-year-old’s services greatly reduces the risk for the Hammers as well.

This one worth keeping an eye on. Giakoumakis has proven he is good enough to flourish in the Eredivisie. It would require a leap of faith from West Ham to bring him to the Premier League, however.

And we think the Greek ace would be worth a punt this summer.
