West Ham boss David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his ranks this summer. And if the Scot is backed by the club’s owners, he should consider making a move to sign former Hammer Joao Mario.

The Daily Mail claims that Inter Milan boss Antonio Conte wants to sell the 46-capped Portugal international this summer.

The Italian, who won the Premier League title with Chelsea, is allegedly desperate to raise funds in order to embark on a summer spending spree.

And considering that our midfield lacked creativity last season, Mario would be a great addition for us.

Sure, Moyes has Manuel Lanzini, Pablo Fornals and Felipe Anderson to call upon. But none of those names really produced the goods last season.

And Mario would surely be welcomed back by the fans to the London Stadium after his fairly successful loan stint with the club in 2018.

The 27-year-old racked up two goals and one assist in 14 games for West Ham just over two years ago (Transfermarkt).

The Portuguese ace spent last season on loan with Lokomotiv Moscow, and he really impressed with the Russian club.

Mario racked up six assists in 22 games (Transfermarkt). He proved that he has what to takes to take a game by the scruff of the neck.

And he would slot into West Ham’s midfield perfectly alongside Tomas Soucek and Declan Rice. The Hammers would then have the ideal blend of energy, creativity and tenacity.

It is true that David Moyes needs to prioritise the additions of a new defender and a new centre-forward this summer.

But sometimes opportunities arise that are too good to ignore.

And Joao Mario’s reported availability is certainly one of those times.

Moyes should seriously consider bringing the Portuguese ace back to West Ham this summer.
