West Ham United target Gary Cahill was given a standing ovation after Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Watford as his summer exit looms.

West Ham have been heavily linked with a move for the England centre back.

Cahill has played just 21 minutes of Premier League football this season after being frozen out by Maurizio Sarri.

Hammers target Cahill on his way out of Chelsea

The 33-year-old told Football London he was offered no explanation as to why and insisted he has been fully fit, focused and training hard all term.

The Hammers have found a solid centre back pairing in Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena. But according to The Mirror last month West Ham are keen to add his experience to their ranks.

There had been speculation that a potential change of manager may see Cahill offered a new deal this summer given the potential transfer ban facing the Blues.

Standing ovation for serial winner, next stop West Ham?

But it appears Cahill’s time at Stamford Bridge is definitely over.

That’s after he was given a standing ovation after Chelsea’s win over Watford and an emotional send-off from his teammates.

Manuel Pellegrini wants to bring in at least one centre back this summer.

The Chilean has a base transfer budget of £30 million and must also find at least two strikers, a box-to-box midfielder and a left-back.

Freebie Cahill attractive on Pellegrini’s budget

So filling one of those positions with a high-quality free transfer will be hugely attractive.

Pellegrini has talked a lot about improving the mentality of West Ham as a club. He wants the Hammers to think and play more like a ‘big team’.

Cahill fits the bill in that respect. He has invaluable experience.

As well as being an England international he has won the Premier League twice, the Champions League, the Europa League, the FA Cup and the League Cup.
