An inside source has delivered a piece of transfer news that every West Ham United fan will be delighted to hear ahead of the summer.
West Ham have sorely missed Declan Rice over the last month after the influential midfielder was ruled out with a knee injury.
But they would miss him even more if persistent speculation over a move to Manchester United materialised in the forthcoming transfer window.
Rice has been consistently linked with a move to Man United over the last two seasons.
Hammers hero Rice consistently linked with move to Man United
The central midfield enforcer has established himself as West Ham’s most important player.
And Rice is now one of the first names on the England team sheet too.
Manchester United are on the hunt for a powerful, tenacious and energetic central midfielder.
It goes without saying that West Ham’s main man is exactly what they need.
David Moyes is adamant Rice will cost any interested club – of which there are reportedly many – well over £100 million.
In the West Ham – and former Man United – manager’s words it would take ‘Bank of England and Bank of Scotland money’.
West Ham will be delighted by verdict from inside source at Old Trafford
The 22-year-old has been central to West Ham’s amazing season which may yet end in Champions League qualification.
The Manchester Evening News reported last month that Rice spoke to Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw about the Red Devils.
Man United football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher also hinted at a move for Rice on a fan’s forum call recently (MEN).
But West Ham insiders Claret and Hugh – who claim to have a source inside Old Trafford – have revealed Man United’s scouts deem Rice ‘too slow and overpriced’.
The report claims Man United have compiled and ‘extensive dossier’ on Rice over two years.
But Hammers fans and David Moyes will be delighted after Red Devils talent spotters gave West Ham’s main man the thumbs down.
“Old Trafford sources have informed Claret and Hugh that some United scouts have raised a red flag whether Rice is the optimal midfield target, should Paul Pogba quit the club in the coming weeks,” Claret and Hugh state.
Man United scouts say ‘Rice lacks pace and is overpriced’ – insider
“United want a ‘dynamic’ defensive screen who can also break the lines, with some scouting reports allegedly citing a supposed lack of pace in Rice…
“A United source told us: “The scouts have sent back plenty of positive reports on Rice but there are a couple of suggestions he might not have the pace they are looking for, and he’s more comfortable playing side to side, rather than breaking lines like Pogba or Matic do.
“United want to sign at least three players this summer and they are hearing West Ham would demand £100m for Rice, which the people at Old Trafford consider at least £20m too much.”
It is music to all our ears. And quite frankly a completely laughable analysis of Rice who is one of the most athletic players in the Premier League.
But who are we to argue with the Man United scouts.
