Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has held an emergency meeting with Rafa Benitez over his lack of playing time, according to the print edition of The Sun via HITC Sport.
Shelvey, who has been linked with West Ham, finds himself out of favour at Newcastle and continues to be overlooked.
And now the midfield man appears to be coming towards the end of his time at Newcastle with a West Ham move possible.
Rafa Benitez and Jonjo Shelvey in showdown talks
After being left out of the 1-0 win over Leicester City, Shelvey reportedly went to Benitez to confront him about his playing time.
The Spaniard explained that Shelvey was not match-fit. But Shelvey responded by saying that his lack of playing time is preventing him from returning to full fitness.
The 27-year-old is now expected to leave Newcastle as he clearly does not feature in Benitez’s plans.
West Ham linked with Jonjo Shelvey
West Ham have been heavily linked with Shelvey. According to The Northern Echo, West Ham will move for the occasional England international in the summer.
With problems of their own in central midfield, West Ham have identified Shelvey as a potential solution in the middle of the park.
When fit, the former Charlton Athletic, Liverpool and Swansea City midfielder is regarded as one of the best passers in the division.
But his injury and fitness record will concern the Hammers, who have struggled with Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere out for most of this season.
