The 20-year-old is a really exciting talent, so if the Magpies do win the race for his signature it will be a real blow for the Hammers.
Newcastle boss Steve Bruce will be keen to bring a new winger to St James’ Park in January. West Ham manager David Moyes, meanwhile, may not be so desperate to sign an attacking wide-man.
With neither Andriy Yarmolenko or Felipe Anderson assured of their respective futures at the London Stadium, however, signing a young up and coming winger may well be a smart move from Moyes.

The Sun (Sunday November 29th, page 65) claimed recently that the Hammers are lining up a January swoop for Sporting ace Gonzalo Plata.
It appears that Newcastle could be ahead of West Ham in the pecking order for the eight-capped Ecuador international’s signature, however.
South American football expert Christian Martin has claimed that the Toon are the club who have shown most interest in the 20-year-old whilst the Hammers’ are only monitoring him on an ‘informal basis’.
Plata can operate on either wing. He is a lively player with plenty of pace and has great potential to go on and become a truly top class player.
If Newcastle win the race to sign him, it could be a real coup for the Tyneside outfit.
Sporting could be willing to accept a fee in the region of £20 million for the winger (The Sun).
And Newcastle may well be in a better position to meet that valuation than West Ham are at moment.
