The Maxi Gomez saga continues for West Ham United as Manuel Pellegrini faces an anxious wait to get his prime target.
Just yesterday sections of the Spanish press claimed West Ham had beaten Valencia in the race to sign the Celta Vigo striker.
That came after Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol made a similar claim in the early hours of Monday morning.
Sources made claim that West Ham had sealed Gomez deal
“Big statement of intent by West Ham,” Solhekol said on Twitter.
“Set to break club record by signing Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo for £45m. Valencia have dropped out. Gomez turning down Champions League football at Valencia to join West Ham.”

But no official announcement has been forthcoming.
And there have been more twists and turns in the press since with denials, claims and counter claims over where Gomez’s future lies.
A common thread was that the player’s representatives, The Stellar Group, were pushing him towards the more lucrative deal at West Ham (Daily Star).
New speculation is bad news for West Ham… if true
Now the latest speculation – which is just that at this stage, speculation and gossip – doing the rounds is that Gomez is looking to change his agent so he can move to Valencia instead.
Several sources have made the claim on Twitter.
The reports seem to emanate from Valencia Sports which is also reporting that Celta Vigo are now refusing to deal with Gomez’s current agents.
If true, and it is a big if given the topsy turvy nature of the saga so far, then it is possibly the strongest indication yet that West Ham should ditch their interest in the 22-year-old.
Striker situation becoming more acute for Pellegrini
West Ham are becoming increasingly desperate for a new striker or two after letting Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez and Marko Arnautovic leave.
But do they really want a player who – if the gossip is to be believed – doesn’t want to be here so much he is trying to change his agent?
Time will tell and the truth will out.
Supporters will just have to hope the club has plans in place to seal a deal for a quality alternative if the Gomez chase does prove fruitless.
