West Ham United’s plan to sign Alexis Sanchez could be scuppered after a new option emerged for Manchester United.

West Ham have been linked with a move for Man United flop Sanchez in the next window, whenever that might be.

A report from Italian website FC Inter News first linked West Ham with an ambitious move for the Inter Milan loanee in the summer.

West Ham linked with ambitious move for Man United flop

Claret & Hugh quoted a ‘senior inside source’ at West Ham when revealing the focus was on signing a strike partner to get the best out of Sebastien Haller.

FC Inter News then claimed West Ham want Sanchez. And that was followed by a report from The Daily Mail which suggested the surprise speculation actually had legs.

Former West Ham and Man United midfielder Paul Ince backed Sanchez to move to the club where he started his career.

Ince and Chile boss give Hammers encouragement

Speaking to Paddy Power, Ince said it would be great business for West Ham and advised Sanchez to make his next move all about playing rather than money.

And Sanchez’s national team manager Reinaldo Rueda gave West Ham great encouragement in an interview with Spanish publication Sport.

Rueda revealed the star just wants to play for ‘any club that can give him a chance’.

He also allayed fan fears over Sanchez’s form and fitness. Rueda insists his star man is far from washed up despite a tough spell with the Red Devils.

New option for Man United hits West Ham’s hopes of pouncing on ‘dry loan’

West Ham were hoping to take advantage of Sanchez’s ‘dry loan’ at Inter.

That means there is no agreed option to buy, allowing the likes of West Ham to negotiate a potential deal.

But West Ham’s reported plans to sign Sanchez may hit a snag.

That’s after a new option emerged for Manchester United and the player in the shape of Italian giants Roma.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that Roma are looking to get Alexis on loan with an option to buy in June 2021 (as also reported by Football Italia).

Sanchez will be 32 by that time and his transfer value has already plummeted over the last couple of years.
