West Ham are lining up a deadline day move for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, according to The Mirror.
Giroud is back on West Ham’s radar after Marko Arnautovic was forced off with an injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
This report does not note whether it will be a permanent or loan bid if the Hammers firm up their interest.
Marko Arnautovic injury
Arnautovic returned to the West Ham side on Tuesday night in the 3-0 loss at Molineux.
But in the second half, the Austrian was replaced by Javier Hernandez and was pictured leaving the ground on crutches.
With fears that Arnautovic could miss a large chunk of this season, West Ham could be forced into action on deadline day.
Giroud is back on West Ham’s radar after the club tried to sign him last January (The Mirror). Instead, the veteran Frenchman moved from Arsenal to Chelsea.
In his year at Chelsea, he has mainly been a second choice forward, scoring 10 goals in 45 matches. During his time with Arsenal, Giroud scored 105 goals in 253 games, including 73 Premier League strikes.
But Chelsea moved to sign Gonzalo Higuain this month and Giroud has inevitably fallen down the pecking order.
The France international could be available for transfer before tonight’s 11pm deadline with West Ham eyeing him up.
Given his experience and goal scoring track record, the 32-year-old could be a shrewd short-term option for the Hammers.
