West Ham United captain Mark Noble has spoken out about the ‘strange’ goalkeeping situation at the club.

After a bright start, the Hammers have endured a torrid season so far.

West Ham’s plummet down the table started when they lost star player Lukasz Fabianski for three months.

The hapless Roberto came in and his performances saw him dubbed the worst goalkeeper in Premier League history.

West Ham’s torrid season between the sticks

Roberto was so bad, third choice David Martin – who was only signed to be a “training ground goalkeeper” – eventually replaced him.

Martin was a vast improvement just by offering a steadier pair of hands.

But he too has had issues, notably costing West Ham the goal which saw them lose to Sheffield United last time out.

West Ham have since completed the protracted re-capture of Darren Randolph from Middlesbrough.

The move has been somewhat controversial.

“Injured” Randolph’s controversial return

Supporters have questioned the wisdom of replacing their 34-year-old injured number one Fabianski with a 32-year-old who was deemed not good enough when he was sold three years ago. Particularly given he too has reportedly signed despite being injured himself.

Randolph has denied he is still injured. Fans have therefore been intrigued to see whether he or Martin get the nod to replace Fabianski against Everton today.

Now, speaking in his column in The Evening Standard, Noble has been discussing the ‘strange’ goalkeeper situation at West Ham.

Noble on ‘strange’ goalkeeping situation, drops Martin hint

And he has dropped a hint that the game HAS come too soon for the returning Randolph.

“It’s great to see Darren Randolph back but I don’t know whether it will be too early for him to go straight into the team against Everton,” Noble said in an aside to his regular The Evening Standard column which has not been published online at at the time of writing.

In other news Roberto is expected to depart for Spanish side Alaves on loan according to new reports (AS).
